Stadium Air Conditioning for 2022 World Cup in Qatar runs into problems!
After all the talk of using state-of-the-art air conditioning to cool stadiums at the 2022 World Cup in Qatar, the architect in charge of one of the venues claimed on Tuesday that a more old-fashioned solution would be cheaper and better.

Qatar has just been ranked as the world's wealthiest country (February 2012) in a new list compiled by the prestigious US magazine Forbes. The Gulf State with a population of 1.7 million topped the list as the world's richest country per capita, thanks to a rebound in oil prices and its massive natural gas reserves. Leading firm Populous, which is designing the Sports City stadium in Doha, is trying to persuade Qatari organizers to scrap plans to have air conditioning at the venue. Populous director John Barrow said the system is too expensive and “notoriously unsustainable” for the environment when used on a large scale.
Evidently they didn't contact Resolve Building Services.
“It is about air movement, moisture in the air and it is about temperature at the right time of day,” Barrow told delegates at the International Football Arena conference. “If we get it right ... that is the way ahead.” Failing that they could always call Resolve, as they can tell you the right way of doing something without cutting corners. Air-conditioned stadiums to beat 50C desert heat in June were a defining theme of Qatar’s winning bid last year.
Qatar, which will host the 2022 Football World Cup and is also in the running for the 2020 Olympic Games, has been a high-profile investor in recent times. The government is pouring money into infrastructure, including a deepwater seaport, an airport and a railway network, all with an eye to making the country a better host for businesses and the 2022 World Cup.
